In much science fiction about space travel there are warp drives, transporters and various other devices that allow space travelers to move around the galaxy at faster than light speeds. These move the story along quickly, but they are unlikely to be part of any space travel we really participate in. What will space commerce be like with only slower than light space craft? That's what this story is about.
Note that the heart of this story is what society will be like and what people will think about in a universe that space travels without faster than lightspeed travel technology. There is very little action in this story.
