The Hipster

The example that keeps popping to mind is the lady shop owner in Sacha Baron Cohen's movie The Dictator (2012). She was running a small business providing customized food for locals.

I'm Melenna La Farge. I run La Farge's Coop here in Brooklyn. I scour the local area for the finest in locally grown organics, and round that out with certified products from Organic Wholesalers.

And I have thirty percent of my shelf space dedicated to consignment crafts made by Brooklyn locals. I have their product on the shelf with a picture of them next to it.

It's not easy, and not the profitable, but it keeps me busy and it supports the neighborhood, so I keep at it.

I've got lots of things I need to be vigilant about. One is that these local consigners keep trying to slip in stuff that they haven't made. They think 3D printing stuff counts as their work, and they show me their [patent][copyright] to prove it. Sorry, I'm old fashioned. If you want to call something hand crafted by you, you'd better have some handiwork in it beside just keyboarding and mousing.

Another problem is that these local farmers keep trying to slip in GM produce. Yeah, it grows better, and faster, and has more taste. But it ain't organic.
