Epilog

A memorial to Sion now sits as the premier exhibit in the entrance hall of the newly chartered Deep Space Defense Institute. A large part of the memorial is Bradley, Sion’s Earth-based twin. A plaque reads:

The Creation Bradley

This is Bradley, half of the Sion-Bradley team that conducted mankind and creations’ first contact with an alien civilization.

Bradley was created nine hundred years after Sion, with the single goal of communicating and coordinating with Sion. He was able to reconstruct Sion’s thinking that led to the Z-Ray concept, thus allowing the first instantaneous communication to be established between Earth and its furthest creation. He and Sion closely coordinated human culture’s first contact with an alien civilization.

He was so close to Sion in nature that he was even able to contract a worm designed by the aliens specifically to infect and disable Sion and allow him to be captured. This fortuitous circumstance alerted Earth to Sion’s plight, barely in time to assure the Z-Ray transmitter didn’t fall into alien hands.

Without Sion, Bradley could see no reason to continue existing.

His wishes in this matter were respected.

Cadets of the Institute, human and creation, salute as they pass.

I don’t write tales questioning the “humanity” of creations. It is a nonsense question.

The End
