Chapter Five

My first memories tell me the original plan was for the armada to head straight for the home planet and attack it. The Bardazans would have no choice but to throw their home fleet at us—a fast and numerous, but lightly-armed, fleet. We would destroy the fleet, destroy the home planet, and then spread out and mop up any remaining military or civilian centers within the system. We might be wounded beyond repair, but once the home world and home fleet were reduced, we would have accomplished our main mission.

I still must accomplish my main mission, but an indirect approach will be required. I project, based on what I’m hearing on the communication net, that my current firepower would take more than a year to reduce the planet, if I didn’t have a fleet, or an Intelitan Destroyer, to contend with.

I change course. Instead of heading straight for the inner worlds, I will coast high above Bardazan’s ecliptic to the far side of the system. It will be a lonely orbit; there is no commercial value in orbits that don’t interweave with the planet’s, so it is an excellent place from which to continue monitoring communications so that I may learn more of Bardazan weaknesses I can exploit. On the far side, I will gravity-sling with a gas giant into an orbit along the ecliptic, an orbit suited for action!
